BBB Comments on Money in the Bank

(Author’s Note: This article is completely “arm-chair quarterbacked”.)

Last night, I couldn’t order the pay-per-view of Money in the Bank. Mainly financial reasons to blame, but at least I could rely on this, a thread on a forum I’ve been a member of for YEARS.

While I’m not going to recap everything they posted, my main source of info regarding the event last night comes from them.

To kick off the show, Daniel Bryan is the Smackdown winner of Money in the Bank and blue briefcase that accompanies it.

To think, a year ago he was gone from the WWE after choking out Justin Roberts with a tie on live television, with all sorts of hoopla on that.

While he’s had some cringe-inducing angles, his wrestling always shined through, and to think that he excelled at ladder matches too only attests to his all-around ability.

On the Raw side, the winner of that ‘Bank’ was bestowed to Alberto Del Rio.

Now this is confusing.

Originally, CM Punk was “suspended” from WWE for the statements regarding Vince and his business. In this wake, Del Rio won a #1 contender match, but later on in the night, Punk was re-instated and this “shot” was never spoken of again. So does Del Rio have MITB and “something under the bonnet”? I guess we’ll find out sooner than later.

Mark Henry puts Big Show on the shelf. Yawn.

K-2 beats B-Squared. Yawn again.

Fast forward to the World Heavyweight Championship encounter.

I know it was part of the stipulation, but I’m going to state the following.

“Christian was awarded the World Heavyweight Championship after being kicked in the balls.”

Wait, that hasn’t sunk in yet? Let me put that down again.

“Christian was awarded the World Heavyweight Championship after being kicked in the balls.”

This whole saga of CLB and RKO has been pretty stupid to be honest. However, Orton snapping post-match and supposedly RKO’ing Christian on the table sounds awesome. Somehow, that’s the babyface doing that!

Now onto the meat and potatoes of the show. While the MITB is the appetizer and dessert, the WWE Championship match was what put “asses in the seats”.

Yet, those seats weren’t used for the duration of the match.

It took 30+ grueling minutes to decide the winner.

After all the wrestling, after all the highspots, and after Vince McMahon with “stooge” (yes, a “stooge”. Like how is John Laurinaitis better than Gerald Brisco and Pat Patterson?) tried to interfere, the winner was the one and only… CM PUNK!

With this win, Punk “leaves” with the title, and the former champion, John Cena, without a job (and rematch).

I must say that Punk, while always a good “hand”, never had the time to shine until now. His promos and cunning have been amongst the brightest stars on WWE programming. Only, I hope it actually leads to a wind of change in the promotion, and not this.

As for Cena, I hope they give him time off.

I truly do, and not in a “because he’s stale and lazy” sort of way.

For carrying this company on his back for the last seven years or so, Cena’s only time off has been due to injury. Even then, he was still doing promo and charity work, and thus the age is starting to wear onto his face.

In 2005

In 2011

Plus it’s no secret that Cena has to be banged up from road travel, and that there has to be lingering injuries.

In conclusion, pre-order Money in the Bank 2011. Apparently, it’s one of the best shows WWE has produced in YEARS. Also, it’s a show that is a legitimate breath of fresh air compared to shows even aired a month ago. The ladder matches are sure to be glorious spot fests, but the WWE Championship match and its atmosphere is just something to behold. Even I, a blogger who truthfully hasn’t seen the show yet, wants to pre-order this right freaking now! If you read this after the show was released onto DVD, then buy the sucker!
