CM Punk Is NOT The Bad Guy!

(‘EY YOO!)

When CM Punk attacked The Rock on RAW 1000, I was actually cheering for the Second City Saint.

While much has been talked about on WWE television concerning the manner, there is one part of the angle that hasn’t been discussed yet, and quite honestly I’m shocked.

Let’s watch the ‘initial’ pipe-bomb of Punk’s again:

The video above cuts to the point (or 4:50 if it botches) where Punk mentions how Dwayne (Johnson) is in the main event of Wrestlemania for 2012, and he isn’t. A dangerous little bit of foreshadowing for sure, and it doesn’t help that Punk actually defended the WWE Championship on that particular program.

Let’s all get back to RAW 1000, shall we?

CM Punk enters the ring after Daniel Bryan got dumped at the altar. How ‘bout that AJ has General Manager of RAW, eh? Anyways, Punk tells Bryan that yeah, you got stood up, get the hell out of my ring because I’m the best. Bryan then notes how he is the best and out comes Rock. Rock badmouths Bryan, and then gives him a wedding present (aka Rock Bottom).

This all happens while Punk stands in the background as a passerby. As WWE Champion no less.

So where I see the next few months is this: Punk defends the title at SummerSlam against Big Show and John Cena, where he is the tweener. Punk will be a tweener for the summer plus fall, and only be a heel temporarily for the Rock angle. Kind of like Shawn Michaels in 2005 with Hogan’s story, only to be turned face again by Chris Masters.

This is one of those rare times where though the crowd will ultimately decide the deposition of a particular character, I’m going to state again I agree with CM Punk.

Imagine being one of the hardest working men, year in and year out. Accolades are plentiful, and the gimmick infectious. Somehow, you get upstaged by a guy who quite frankly only comes in for the infrequent pop? And he gets a bigger piece of the poontang pie than you? (Bret Hart must be thinking, yeah, this is what Hogan did to me!) Punk has every right to be upset, and in continuity to the pipe bomb, I hope he kicks Rock’s ass at the Rumble.

While the matches may leave people wanting, the documentary is a sure-fire draw. If this is even half as good as Stone Cold’s, The Rock’s, Shawn Michaels’, or ECW’s, you’re in for a treat!

The second option available maybe a retread, but a very worthy one. Brock Lesnar: Here Comes the Pain was a documentary originally produced in 2003, when Brockamania was at its peak. Now with his return to the WWE, Brock’s career is being touched up on. There is going to be about a half hour worth of additional footage added to the existing piece, making this more comprehensive than last time. While extra matches have yet to be announced, do not be surprised if a lot of Smackdown matches from 2002-2004 are included, as well as the brawl between Cena and Lesnar at this past year’s Extreme Rules. I would laugh my ass off if they include Brock’s mariachi band segment from 2004, as it really showed off how much of a dick Lesnar could be. I’d also laugh if the Goldberg match from Wrestlemania XX is included with Lesnar quipping how bad the match is (ala Mick Foley about the Kennel from Hell from ‘Hard Knocks & Cheap Pops’). I’ve only seen the original documentary once and it was good, so with this updated material, it has the makings of a classic.

Bad Booking’s Blog 1 Year Down Post

I can’t believe it’s been a year already.

Approximately one year ago, this blog was hatched out of desperation.

Unemployment is a bitch people.

A hairy, ugly, slanted, depressing bitch.

Make a wish. Take a bite!”

At that point, I was accruing debt quickly.  While I was putting in applications everywhere I could, nothing was coming through. Call back after call back, all I got was either, “We’ll be with you shortly,” or, “Sorry you’re not qualified for this position.”

Depression was quickly setting in. One thing did save me as I had imagination and wanted to write stuff.

Thus this blog was born.

Originally just that, a way to cure depression, it’s primary purpose was supposed to be an eclectic mix of odds and ends making for entertaining pieces.

Top ten song lists on the likes of ‘Weird Al’ and Billy Joel were what got me the most views at first.

That initial ‘Weird Al’ bitty was popular enough where the album reviews were spun off. Heck, I even made a sub-page for them on the top!

Another piece that got attention early was the Blu-ray guide. Thought up because of a forum I frequent, BD (as in short for Blu-ray Disc) is still a confusing medium. The purpose of that dialogue was to educate people on the format without going over their heads. While I know I screwed up on some things and corrected most of them, it is refreshing to post that piece somewhere and a person appreciates your effort.

Speaking of appreciation, this is what leads me to wrestling, namely the WWE.

After starting a badly botched ‘Challenge’ page, there were posts made about various topics like the TV content, a certain wrestler becoming #1 in the PWI list, and multiple countdowns on matches of different varieties/eras.

The traffic really started to racket much to my surprise. I was lucky to get 10 views in a week, but now its upwards of 200 views a week consistently, with spikes not withstanding. Now you know why I steered so swiftly off the original path.

Speaking of spikes (no not the horrible channel), two pieces in particular really got people reading.

A post made on WWE’s PG actually spread to other forums, and they got them debating. What’s more affirming is that people read it, and realized it wasn’t the same old only-complaints that had been the norm for quite some time. A refreshing view on things is always appreciated, and that was my goal. Some counterpoints notwithstanding, mission accomplished!

Also, a countdown list I made on the best 1990’s matches made some people water. Apparently every match was agreeable to a point, and it was the second post to reach individually over 1,000 unique views (after the PG one).

Lately however, my creative juices have been slowed due to steady high production at work. It’s not so much that I get home late every night (to be honest I get home late 2 days a week and early 3 days), but I throw myself so hard at what I do that sometimes this blog will be getting dust while I try to recover and do the grind again.

Even with infrequent posts, I’m happy that this blog still gets regular visits, and I’m still getting comments on things I forgot I wrote about! It’s cool to think with a keyboard and an imagination, you could potentially influence one’s view on a subject. Even on a rant, it’s easy to see people agreeing or disagreeing depending on bias or affiliation.

It’s been a blast over the last year, and it’s been a blessing in disguise. There’s been a lot of words written, a lot of different topics discussed, and a lot of different opinions on certain ideas. In the end, it’s a great thing about a blog: at least people are reading. I also want to thank Freakin’ Awesome Network for giving me consistent traffic and talkback in the last year!

The Theory of Bad Booking: Raw, Wrestlemania, WARRIYAH!

HOTYOD

There’s been a lot of stuff done on this blog.

Stuff like countdowns, profiles, and even a match review every now and then.

However, what I’m about to do I haven’t done yet.

You’ve seen it in many publications, where a scribe takes random thoughts and puts down random quibbles about it.

This will be an example of that. Here we go!

How many of you think Jericho/Punk was a work?

I certainly think so.

If you didn’t know already, Punk kicked Jericho out of the Elimination Chamber during the past PPV of the same name. Jericho not only took out a camera man but also himself from the contest.

Jericho, then got ‘cleared’ to compete, and proceeded and to win a battle royal the night after to win a Wrestlemania title match.

From this author’s point of view, this isn’t a complaint.

If anything, it just shows that WWE really knows how to blur the line between kayfabe and shoot… when they want to...

So how about that, Sheamus and Daniel Bryan go from kicked off Wrestlemania 27 to co-headlining Wrestlemania 28.

It wasn’t too long ago that there were rumors that WWE was willing to nearly give up on these guys.

I don’t care who wins, but I do know this: outside of The Miz, this is probably the biggest promotion from one Wrestlemania to another probably in history.

So apparently Brodus Clay’s funk train has been temporarily derailed.

On some news sites, it seems the big guy doesn’t have the full backing of one Vincent K. McMahon. McMahon has been noted as saying that the man is reckless in the ring.

This miffs me for a bit.

Brodus, after being ‘promoted’ from FCW, was on NXT with Alberto Del Rio as his mentor. After that, Clay accompanied ADR to matches and such.

Fast-forward to Extreme Rules where he was seemingly written out after an unexpectedly gory blood-letting during a ladder match.

During this time he could have went back to FCW for polishing, but apparently this has not been the case.

He had filmed a movie, and even did SEVERAL squashes on Superstars as his own generic monster hoss self.

For the longest time (no, not the Billy Joel song), Clay was hyped up to return, but Johnny Ace was always putting it off until ‘next week’.

When he did return, he less resembled Snitsky and more resembled Ernest ‘the Cat’ Miller.

Entertaining audiences around the country, he has seemingly been put on the back burner yet again.

This all goes back towards lack of FCW training.

If it turns out he was reckless at that point, then why not refine his craft? It’s not like he was shortly endeavored thus had no reason to care. The man has an upside of being a unique player in a WWE Universe full of clones.

THIS JUST IN: Drew McIntyre, in the middle of a ridiculous losing streak, is straddled with a new gimmick of kissing guys. This was overseas in Honduras.

If Cody Rhodes was still ‘Dashing’, we’d have a brand new over-as-rover tag team!

Wait, people are treating The Rock like a celebrity now?

This isn’t a new practice.

At the first Wrestlemania, there was Liberace, Muhammad Ali, amongst others.

Since then people like Salt n’ Pepa, Mike Tyson, Pete Rose (x3), Donald Trump, and more have appeared in segments where it’s arguable that wrestlers could have, um, wrestled.

So why is The Rock a unique case in complaints then?

Well, he did leave the WWE for Hollywood full-time in 2004, and besides the off-the-cuff appearance, didn’t have a truly competitive match until Survivor Series 2011.

The point is is that Wrestlemania is the highest-paying/most prestigious event on the calendar. The ‘boys’ in the back make that their “aspire to be here” date, where even the Battle Royal dark match could be the highest pay-day of the year.

So again, why so much heat on The Rock?

He’s not full time and still makes an impression? Too bad.

Yet he’ll help the event crack a million buys, and there’ll still be complaining. Geez…

Kayfabe is officially dead: http://www.wweshop.com/category/Men/TShirts-Kayfabe

So the General Managers of Raw and Smackdown are currently hurled into a feud? At least with there this is going, this won’t be bad as the last time this happened:

Speaking of The Rock, his new DVD/Blu-ray is a welcome addition to ANY wrestling library. The documentary is top-notch, and all the supplements are a nice touch too.

Don’t forget to get the 2008 DVD too, and The Rock’s career chronicles are pretty much set.

This will most likely be a future blog article, but I have to mention Triple H and Undertaker III for Wrestlemania 28 is official… INSIDE HELL IN THE CELL!

Fry, you know what to do!

Off topic compared to the rest of the article, but it seems like the Ultimate Warrior will be coming out of hibernation.

Coming to Northeast Wrestling, Warrior will be appearing at the Mid-Hudson Civic Center (in Poughkeepsie, New York) in conjunction with Wrestlefest 16, the promotion’s biggest event.

As a person who has front-row tickets, I view this as a blessing that a huge legend is coming.

However, I also fear the worst.

The DVD notwithstanding, it seems that Warrior’s reputation isn’t the greatest, and the promos thought up in this man’s head are something made up not in this world.

Only time will tell what Warrior will say on March 23rd, but I’m going to remain positive that something cohesive could be churned out.

On a last note, I’d like to quip that I’ve been doing some Wrestlemania Profiles. I’ll be hopefully doing five in total, while two are complete.

The first two done have been Shawn Michaels and Steve Austin. Look for others to be done on the way to Wrestlemania Sunday.

The Rock: The Epic Adventure of Dwayne Johnson

twitpic

So I went to Twitter the other day and asked what I should do next for this blog.

As you can see, wwedvdnews gave me a challenge to make up content for the newest ‘Rock’ DVD coming out in February.

This sounds like a daunting task.

My response?

YOU’RE ON!

Coming out on February 21st, the newest Rock collection from WWE Home Video promises to be one for the ages. With input from the man himself, the collection apparently features promos, matches, but it’s not known at the point of writing whether a documentary is there or not.

Today, Bad Booking is about to become an armchair quarterback. Given this “dare” so to speak, I’m coming up with the content that should be on this new collaboration.

One difference noticed IMMEDIATELY is that this collection will be a 4-disc DVD/3-disc Blu-ray, like the Steve Austin one released not too long ago. Another difference is that the content, while more finite, will feature stuff never before seen on compilations (in addition to the repeat stuff).

Before starting, I will note that in a perfect world, I’d ask Vince McMahon if he’d make a charitable donation to the panda people so that nothing gets blurred/bleeped. Let’s not forget people that Rock’s prime was right smack in the ‘Attitude Era’, from 1998-2002. Although I’d get denied immediately, at least it shows initiative that I care about the content being presented without alterations.

Now then, let’s get to cracking!

Goes without saying, that DISC ONE IS A DOCUMENTARY! Shorter than Austin’s, but about as long as Bret Hart’s, which was about two hours itself.

Although I’m not exactly creative with chapter names, I can offer a preview of how this project will go.

- The first twenty or so minutes talk about Rock’s life before he got into the business himself. Unlike Steve Austin’s documentary, which glossed through his childhood/young adult year in about twenty-six seconds, Rock’s younger years are much more wrestling involved than his contemporary Rattlesnake. Starting with his grandfather ‘High Chief’ Peter Maivia, then his father Rocky Johnson, and perhaps an exploit about Freddie Blassie, little Dwayne always had wrestling in his blood. That almost took a different turn when he was on that legendary Miami Hurricanes college football team from the early 1990s.

SACKED!

- WWE, 1996. It’s the debut of one Rocky Maivia from Madison Square Garden, as he takes part in the Survivor Series. The ‘Blue Chipper’ catches on strong early, even winning the Intercontinental Championship. However, doing things the traditional ‘babyface’ way led to resentment from the crowd, and thus the newly-named ‘Rock’ made a mold of his own.

-Nation of Domination. This is where the ‘y’ from Rocky was dropped, as well as “Maivia”. Starting as in inauspicious addition, success went to the young man’s head. Becoming even stronger with another run with of the IC belt, Rock would kick out Farooq (Ron Simmons), and become ‘Ruler’. This would lead to finally showing the charisma the guy always had, and the start of the catapult to the top. The feud with D-Generation X would also be featured, as well as Rocky’s incredible run at the 1998 Royal Rumble.

-Corporate Champion. For a small little while, The Rock became a fan favorite. However, at Survivor Series 1998, the joke turned onto his opponent Mankind, when it was revealed that Vince McMahon, who had despised Rock, was working with him all along. On top of the world, Rock finally became a heel that could go toe-to-toe with the best from ‘Rattlesnake’ country.

- Royal Rumble 1999. Yep, the ‘I Quit” match alone gets a chapter. If released on Blu-ray, there should be an interactive portion that allows you to skip to the match during the chapter. Like the Jake Roberts DVD, this mentions the movie ‘Beyond the Mat’. If you remember correctly, Mankind went into the match champion after winning the belt in an emotional match on RAW.  Mick Foley would of course be the main guy interviewed besides Rock, and would pretty much tell the same story he told in his second book, “Foley is Good”. Long story short, Johnson went a little too far. If you want to know why WWE bans chair shots to the head, watch this match. Instead of a few shots, Rock gets into double-digit category, while deepening a cut that was already there on Foley’s head. The chapter would also show Foley’s wife, Collette, protecting their children Dewey and Noelle from the carnage. Although the two patched things up, Rock and Foley had heat with each other for a little bit because Rock didn’t outright apologize to Foley, kind of like Owen Hart not apologizing to Steve Austin after Summerslam 1997.

- Wrestlemania XV: Although the match itself gets a chapter, it primarily revolves around Rock explaining how going into Wrestlemania WWE Champion feels like.

-The People’s Champion: Shortly after Backlash 1999, where Rock lost his title rematch to Austin, the most electrifying man in sports entertainment finally becomes the most loved man in the company (or almost by that point). Now laying the Smackdown to his bad guy adversaries, the fans immediately rallied behind him. This would also cover The Rock and Sock Connection days, with ‘This is Your Life’ prominently featured. Oh yeah, that’s easily a special feature. All 30 some-odd minutes of it!

- McMahon-Helmsley Regime: Although The Rock and Triple H were always at odds in the WWE, their most legendary segment of their rivalry took place in 2000. The power-hungry WWE Champion versus The Great One, it was a months-long epic confrontation that produced many hours of entertaining TV (with or without EVERY member of the McMahon family). This will cover it all from about December of 1999 to about June of 2000 where the feud pretty much died off after King of the Ring. This is a chapter that in practice would come off much better in visual presentation.

-WWE Champion: After The Rock won the WWE Championship in 2000, he began a successful series of mini-feuds and title defenses that endeared him to legendary status. Sadly Chris Benoit won’t be featured, because let’s face it, he is one of those “unmentionables”. However, Summerslam 2000, Unforgiven 2000, and the highly controversial No Mercy 2000 matches are covered. Somewhat lengthy chapter, but all tied together in theory.

-The Promos: Would you like a chapter of the Rock describing his promo style? Yes? Then that’s all this is, about seven minutes of clip glory.

-Rikishi: Short chapter on the rivalry with Rock’s “cousin”. Goes all the way up to Royal Rumble 2001, with Armageddon 2000’s Hell in the Cell match mentioned too.

-Wrestlemania X-Seven: After winning the WWE Championship from Kurt Angle the month before at No Way Out, Rock and Austin face off once again in a 70K Houston Astrodome on the grandest stage of all. An untraditional face vs. face match, the two went at it for thirty minutes straight. Of course until Vince showed up, and Austin turned heel. Also covering the cage rematch the next night, this would segue into Rock’s budding movie career getting a head-start.

-Movies: This chapter mentions the PR Rock did, including outside interviews and the two ‘Mummy’ movies. Again, much better described visually than verbally, WWE would do a GREAT job getting old footage together and presenting it in a complimentary matter.

-Invasion: This describes Rocky coming back in July of 2001, to take the WWE side of the war. All the way until Survivor Series 2001. Also mentioned would be Rock hitting on Lilian Garcia, and some of the funniest put-downs imaginable. This definitely would also feature that infamous promo on Booker T.

- Wrestlemania X-8: Skimming over the next few months, and the fact Jericho would once again gloat rightfully about his accomplishment,  here the doc mentions the match that transcends time. The build-up, the atmosphere of Toronto, getting booed as a babyface, everything. Epic ten minute chapter. For WWE, they can cheat using the Hogan footage from ‘Still Rules’.

-Summerslam 2002: Rock won the Undisputed Championship at Vengeance, and his next opponent would be “The Next Big Thing”. Long island, Summerslam, Brock Lesnar. Rock notes how the crowds are smart, and they knew he was going to lose the title. Instead of pandering to the crowd, he instead electrifies them, and makes Lesnar look like a million bucks. Seeing as Lesnar may or may not retire from UFC, some new interview footage would be awesome!

- Wrestlemania XIX: Third time is the charm for Rock. Rock quips about how usually when people return they get cheered. He returns and gets booed out of the building! Again, the visuals on this would be tremendous, and that’s why WWE is the best when it comes to documentaries.

- Wrestlemania XX: Comments on his handicap match with Mick Foley versus Batista, Ric Flair, and Randy Orton as Evolution. In my mind, highly underrated match that is a fine compliment to all of their careers. Rock would make his last actual wrestling performance there for a very long time.

- Movie Career: Rock and the movies. Simple. Talks about hits like ‘Fast and Furious’, while trashes bombs like ‘Doom’. The Wrestlemania 24 Hall of Fame is also mentioned, with new stories surely to be unearthed.

-The return/Survivor Series: For the first time in a long time, The Rock returns to WWE television. Cutting a promo on the company as a whole, but in particular the PG rules and John Cena, Rock’s personality wins over a new generation of fans. After screwing Cena (arguably) out of the WWE Championship at Wrestlemania 27, the two agree on a match to headline Wrestlemania 28. In the meantime, they tag up in MSG, 15 years nearly to the day Rock debuted, at Survivor Series. Add in Miz and R-Truth to the interview footage, and we got ourselves quite the little number going on.

-Legacy: Adding in comments from other superstars while contributing a music video, it’s that denouement chapter that summarizes everyone into one little beautiful visual package of pomp and pageantry. This is the point where people realize their money was not spent in vain, and that this was FINALLY the release they waited for.

So you want matches and promos? Since disc one on the DVD will be the documentary plus some other side stories, here is the content listing from disc two to disc four, with the Blu-ray exclusives!

I know a lot of you are looking at the match/promo list and going, “WAH, THIS IS A GOOD AMOUNT OF REPEATS!”

Well shut your mouth and know your role and read the blogger spiel!

When it comes to some of the matches, lets face it: they are meant to encompass the career of The Rock, and not his opponents.

For example, the first Triple H/Rock match is to show how far they’ve come. The addition of commentary only adds to this point.

As for the Blu-ray, it contains both of Rock’s 1998 Royal Rumble matches. Both of these made the stock in Maivia rise that night. The IC match was not only good, but had one of the best reversals of fortune EVER, and if anyone doubts early heel Rock, then watch the end to this. 55 minutes in a Rumble directly afterwards is no slouch either, yet Rock pulls it off big time! Not to mention a foreshadowing brawl with Austin!

Summer of 1998 had two choices, whether it’d be Summerslam or Fully Loaded. I personally chose the FL match because while both have been on DVD before, I thought this match also showed why heel Rock was awesome, barely escaping with the title.

The Breakdown match is a truly underrated classic that quite frankly can be repeated and no one will mind. A match with three men inside a cage doesn’t seem all that intriguing until you have a hardcore bastard in Foley, the world’s most dangerous Shamrock, and then a electrifier in Rock. Three combustible men= A TON OF FUN!

There’s a rare match on BD I chose to include with the handicap war from RAW. This is on the out-of-print Best of RAW V1 & 2 set from 2001, and let me tell you, this is a TREAT! One of the only times ever where Undertaker is pinned clean as a sheet in the center of that ring.

Both Foley matches, Survivor Series 98 and Rumble 99, need no explanation. They are the second genesis of heel Rock, and better yet, make Rock look absolutely horrifically evil. Those chair shots at the Rumble, although it was an accident, made Rock a monster no one ever saw before.

That six-man tag from RAW in 1999 is the #1 all-time rated ANYTHING in the history of RAW. Sure it doesn’t match ratings done by a Saturday Night’s Main Event from the 1980’s, but let’s not fool ourselves. At the PEAK of the Monday Night War, a 9.3 rating is nothing to slouch at. I put it on here because it proves that Rock=ratings.

Backlash 2000 needs no introduction. This should have happened at Wrestlemania the month before, from the stips all the way to Austin making his presence felt. Perhaps one of the absolute best matches in Rock’s career, it had a hot crowd, and a hotter finish. I wish there was room to put Judgment Day 2000 on here as well, but three matches against “The Game” is certainly enough for anyone. On commentary yet again, the two explain how it was like to perform like they did in front of electric crowds every night. Plus a certain bald-headed man makes a cameo near the end!

Another solid unspoken for contest is No Way Out 2001 against Kurt Angle. Sure it may seem a little strange, but it was a straight-up no-stip match with a couple of surprises. One was Big Show destroying EVERYONE mid-match, and the other was Earl Hebner legitimately screwing up the finish. I love little flaws like that, even if it wasn’t caught on immediately (I only noticed about a year ago myself).

For the bajillionth time, we have Austin/Rock II from Wrestlemania X-Seven! YAY! OPEN UP THE CANS OF STEVEWEISERS! First time ever, Rock and Austin both get to finally settle down and talk about this match on the commentary track. Performing in the Astrodome, nearly seventy thousand fans, and everyone reacting to everything, Austin and Rock fondly look back at this, their best match together, knowing full well they got the absolute best out of one another. On the DVD, highlight this chapter, press left two times, and there’s an easter egg of Jim Ross sitting down with Rock and Austin just days before X-Seven! And you thought I couldn’t make old dogs learn new tricks!

Next up is probably the second-best Triple Threat match in WWE history, as Angle and Rock take on Bad Ass Undertaker for the Undisputed Championship at Vengeance 2002. Bad ass is right, as the only time this match was available on DVD was the special two-disc version of “JUST BRING IT”.

One more time, Austin and Rock sit down for Wrestlemania. This time its for XIX, famous for being the one Rock finally won while being Austin’s last competitive match. Austin tells Rock stories, like the near-heart attack, that make Rock completely dumbfounded on how well this match came out. Both point out JR did a great job on commentary post-match covering up the fact it was a mini-love fest, while verbally JR saying it was smack talk.

Hey, want to work the audience? Then what about this! “Schedule” Rock and Cena to do a recording of a commentary for their MSG match, but only Cena shows up, and Rock doesn’t! While the commentary sadly won’t be recorded, it’d be an easy way to grow anticipation of the release!

The promos really need little to no explanation. Literary thesis wasn’t a strong point of mine, and while there’s nothing hidden (besides Rock wanting to be pleasured by Gennifer Flowers), the promos are a huge part of what makes The Rock The Rock. No one else talks like him, exaggerates like him, but better yet, no one can do a great setup/pull-off like him. Even on RAW in 2011 he still “had it”. Hell, Rock can definitely be amongst the top five, maybe even top two, promo men in the history of the WWE.

IN CONCLUSION: Consider the dare done. I made a Rock set, WITH FOUR DVDS, and with some of the best promos to boot. The only hard part of it wasn’t the actual content, but what dates did the promos occur on. Time constraints suck too, but that’s half the fun! I hope you all have fun reading this, and hope when the actual content list from WWE gets released, you’re not all disappointed anticipating my version.

Another General Announcement: Introducing Bad Booking’s DVD’s!

dvd16(keep in mind this picture is an older capture)

As some of you may know, I have a DVD/Blu-ray collection. I am proud of what I have accrued, and even prouder on how I compiled some most of these products.

So starting very soon, I’m going to post pictures and stories about these discs.

Like most people and their collections, the products (at times) can only be as good as the backstories themselves.

So far, including the inevitable Black Friday/Cyber Monday haul, there are well over 300 titles to cover, so there won’t be a shortage of material.

I will also note that I never have went into debt, or any other serious financial hardship to purchase these treasures. I will always maintain that I spend responsibly, and have always put needs before wants.

Which brings me back to my collection.

It all started back in 2001 or so when I got a certain box set as a really early birthday present.

That will kick it off in due time as right now, I’m going to compile pictures (and my brain power) to make something unique and hopefully entertaining. It’s going to be a massive undertaking for sure, but it’s going to be an undertaking I will enjoy as a labor of love (when I’m not punched in at work that is).

So in the mean-time, take this as I won’t be doing many or any new topics for the blog, as my attention will be focused squarely on this peg. With hundreds of titles to catalog, including wrestling, cartoons, and even the Hollywood epics, this is one not to miss!

For anyone who wants to see what this is going to potentially include, check out my collection over at Invelos here.

A General Announcement Post

cobrardrift(Forza 3 picture if anyone was wondering)

I figured I’d try something new with the blog, and that’s pretty much make here-and-there announcements concerning future blog posts and other topics that may be covered.

First off, let me state that there are two “sections” I have awfully neglected in the last four months or so. Those two are the Weird Al Album Review Archive and The 30 Days of WWE Challenge Page. Ever since I became gainfully employed again back in July, I haven’t had the time to focus on those pages, and instead focused on what got me the most views on this here blog: wrestling lists/reviews.

As for Weird Al, I do plan on going ahead with Poodle Hat and hopefully get a post up Friday some time. As one of his lesser albums in my mind, it should be interesting to see if the opinion on it changes. I still believe “Genius in France” is by far the most overwrought song Al has ever done.

As for the ‘30 Days’, that one will be a little tougher. I am contemplating putting multiple days together and do that once a week until it is completed. I still have the original MS Notepad file with the days/selections, so it’s not like it’ll be off the top of my head.

Speaking off the top of my head, I plan on doing a special Thanksgiving post slated for one week from this coming Friday. It won’t revolve around wrestling, or NASCAR (even though the 10-year anniversary of ‘that’ New Hampshire race is coming), or even cartoons.

Instead, it will involve a special originally aired on Food Network in 1999 and has sought regular holiday rotation on cooking channels since. It’s far from the traditional “throw things in a pan and cook” style that most shows envelop, and actually holds up quite well despite the fact it is over 10 years old. Although the show it’s based off of is now officially retired (BOO!), the influence the program brought to my family will never go away.

Before wrapping this up, allow me to shill some DVD’s up for pre-order that look quite tempting. Apparently from places I go to, I can really do a sell job, so let’s see what I can do here. Remember that any product purchased through the links helps this blog, so anything done is greatly appreciated.

For the wrestling fan, there is the new Stone Cold DVD set, which has multiple discs of matches in addition to a BRAND NEW DOCUMENTARY that chronicles the life of the Rattlesnake. Not only is there a new documentary, but there are rarely-seen promos finally seeing the light of day! Lastly, Austin and Jim Ross do alternate commentary for the historic battles at Wrestlemania 13, XIV, and X-Seven!! That alone could be worth the price of admission. Hitting the street just after Thanksgiving (November 29th), this disc set looks to be HOT for the holidays! Here’s the link for the pre-order.

Just before that, a major Blu-ray release for the lover in classic animation. There is a new Looney Tunes release coming entitled the Platinum Collection. Three discs in total, it features well-known cartoons getting high-definition transfers (off of STUNNING restorations used mostly for the Golden Collections of yore), and has a whole disc of special features. While it may look like a bunch of repeats to most (save for a few new cartoons), the high-definition transfers and the “collector’s edition” (which includes certificate of authenticity, drinking glass, replica cels, etc.) looks worth it to me. This disc set, which comes in a digi-book format, hits the market on November 15th. Here’s the link for that bad-boy.

One more consideration, this time for an actual theatrical movie that’s RECENT. The smash sequel to a very much smash original, The Hangover Part II presents the theory of, “what’s not broke doesn’t need fixing.” In a nutshell, put in the crazy plot of the original, replace Doug’s wedding for Stu’s wedding, and put in exotic Thailand instead of gambling Las Vegas. While critics complained the movie felt a little too familiar, there was certainly nothing wrong with kicking back and laughing at stuff you feel bad laughing at. In a sense, I thought that while it wasn’t perfect per se, it was still an enjoyable romp that brings on the laughs and horrible Billy Joel parodies. If you’re interested in checking this out, click here. Or hell, if you don’t own the original that’s nearly a modern-day classic, do yourself a favor and get a copy here.

And that’s enough of that! See ya’ll back here on Friday for a new entry!
